The Incidence of Postpartum Depression in Trabzon Province and the Risk Factors During Gestation

Method: All pregnant women in the third trimester of gestation that presented to 6 primary health care centers in Trabzon province and the Hospital of Obstetrics and Children were informed about the study. The 316 women who agreed to participate in the study were administered a sociodemographic questionnaire, the General Health Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory, and Beck Depression Inventory. Among these women, 192 (75%) were contacted during their first visit. Between the sixth and eighth postpartum weeks, the above-mentioned inventories (excluding the sociodemographic questionnaire) and additionally, the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, were administered to 152 of the women (79%). All scales were re-administered to 132 women (68.7%) during their sixth postpartum month.
